AboutJason Shafrin is a healthcare economist who uses quantitative analysis to improve the quality and efficiency of the American health care system. Dr. Shafrin is currently the Director of Healthcare Quality and Value-Based Research Methods and a Senior Research Economist at Precision Health Economics.
He has published work in a variety of interdisciplinary journals including American Journal of Cardiology, American Journal of Managed Care, American Journal of Pharmacy Benefits, Current Research and Medical Opinion, Health Affairs, Health Economics, Health Services Research, Value in Health and written numerous reports for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Dr. Shafrin has presented his work at conferences including the AcademyHealth, Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP), AMCP Nexus, American College of Rheumatology (ACR), American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology (ASCP), American Heart Association QCOR (AHA QCOR), International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR), and Western Economic Association International (WEAI).
After receiving a PhD in Economics from the University of California-San Diego, Dr. Shafrin worked at Acumen, LLC helping Medicare implement a variety of the provisions of the Affordable Care Act. He has lead projects to: develop value-based purchasing system in Medicare for both the physician and home health settings, improve the methodology to estimate geographic differences in the price of labor, and propose methodologies to improve estimates of national health expenditure over the next 75 years. Dr. Shafrin is currently a Senior Research Economist with Precision Heath Economics where he uses his interdisciplinary skills in economics, health services research, and health policy to improve the quality and efficiency of the healthcare system. He has worked in a variety of therapeutic areas (atrial fibrillation, diabetes, mental illness, oncology, rheumatoid arthritis) and project types (e.g., claims analysis, discrete choice experiment surveys, simulation modeling, development and validation of econometric techniques, technical expert panels). In his role as Director of Healthcare Quality and Value-Based Research Methods, he oversees the integrity of all projects that rely on administrative quality measures or value-based reseach methods.
